Private View Invitation

Hello Friends,

The Under Milk Wood exhibition of original drawings has moved to its second venue, The Mid Wales Arts Centre, Maesmawr, Caesws, Newtown SY17 5SB.

Although the exhibition will be there until October, the Private View will actually be on Sunday 18th August between 3-5pm. I will be there discussing the drawings and answering all your question so do come along and have a look.

Like Llantarnam Grange, the Mid Wales Arts Centre has decided not to print physical invitation cards so for all those people that reached out asking for an invitation, please consider this newsletter your personal invite!

Cathy Knapp, the indomitable director of @MidWalesArts and I hung the exhibition on Monday and as you can see from the photos its going to be splendid. The venue is flooded with natural light which really shows off the subtle shading that can be achieved with a humble pencil. As well as this two ceramists, Jo Mattox and Hilary Cowley Greer have created some unique clay sculptures in response to the text. Cathy allowed me a sneak peek inside the kiln and I can honestly say the 3D art is full of humour and tenderness - Dylan would have approved.

A new venue means new art! This exhibition has FOUR new drawings! Here are two:

Please meet Mrs Pugh, who nags the salt cellar and PC Attila Rees, damp under his helmet - if you have read the text you will know why!

If you can’t make the exhibition don’t worry you can still pre-order the books directly from my website along with cards, calendars and notebooks.

THE ILLUSTRATED BOOKS ARE IN PRODUCTION!

I will shortly be adding an Events page to my website so you can always see where the exhibition is.

On the subject of books my fabulous friend Joanne Harris has just published "The Moonlight Market" - I was lucky enough to be handed an early draft and its a glorious read, an escape from the norm, a doorway into an alternate reality if only we can open our eyes to see it. Of course I started illustrating it straight away. Unfortunately the print budget did not run to including illustrations, but never to be put off, I’ve published cards instead to celebrate this wonderful fantasy.

Its been an incredibly busy month, but I have one last piece of news for you. Yesterday I was able to deliver four new oil paintings to the Maven Gallery in Bradford on Avon. Here is a sneak peek at three of them, all inspired by the majestic Copper Beech.

All three of these paintings are oil on canvas - canvas size 60cm square. I mixed all the shades of gold, copper and bronze myself using metallic pigments - it was an absolute joy to work with these colours and make my own paint - I’m sure I will do a lot more in this colour range in the future.

For info about this or anything else please feel free to reach out, I love to hear from you, please use the contact form at the bottom of my home page.

Love you all, moree soon❤️
