MUSE — A Collaborative Art & Story Project

MUSE is a publishing project with a difference. I'm not simple presenting you with a finished book, instead I'm offering you the opportunity to be part of something unique.

If successful MUSE will become a collaboration: a conversation between image and story.

For those of you who remember my 52 CROWS project, this will feel familiar, but there are two important differences. Firstly, I’m looking to work with a smaller group of writers — probably no more than twelve contributors. Most of the book will be devoted to my drawings, presented mainly as double-page spreads, with selected pages reserved for written work.

Secondly, unlike 52 CROWS, my hope is to publish MUSE through crowdfunding.

Attached are a small selection of drawings that reflect my ongoing interest in folklore and myth. More drawings will be added in the coming weeks as the project develops.

I invite you to choose an image that speaks to you and create a short piece inspired by it; maximum length of 500 words. I'm looking for short stories, a fragment, a memory, flash fiction or poem. There are no fixed interpretations. The drawings are intended as starting points; where they lead is entirely up to you, but please nothing that is likely to cause offence.

Places are not first-come, first-served; contributors will be selected according to how the work fits the developing book.

The goal is to create a collection where artwork and writing exist together: drawings that spark stories, and stories that deepen the drawings. This is intended as a genuine creative collaboration. Selected pieces may be included in the final publication, and all contributors whose work is chosen will be credited in the book.

There won’t be payment for contributions — this is a voluntary creative project — but I hope it offers something equally valuable:

the opportunity to help create something meaningful, unexpected and shared. If MUSE speaks to you, I’d love for you to be part of it.
