Typical of me, when I started this drawing I was really not quite certain how it would turn out - I had no "finished picture" in my mind or rough drawing to work from. So I started drawing the young girl first but was unsure of what themes would be placed around her. So looking out of my studio window I took inspiration from my garden. As it was spring, the garden was dominated by the magnolia tree and everything was filled with small birds. As these are two of my favourite subjects to drawing, I simply could not help myself!
But, nothing is ever sweetness and light with me, so I included the skull as a reminder that spring never lasts.
All work is signed.
